Jager's Christmas List

Dear Santa Paws,

Ruff! How is the North Pole? I wanted to let you know that I have been extra good this year! I have been keeping my barks to a minimum, my digging to only a few times a year, and I only howl when absolutely necessary! I was thinking that maybe you could bring me a couple of things this year. First, I would like a barker’s dozen from my favorite treat ladies, Jan and Liz at Don’t Forget the Dog! I really like the Mutt-n-Honey and VegeDogs. Those dipped ones aren’t too bad either, and I heard they have some fun ones for the holidays! I would also like a brand new tennis ball, a three pack would be fine. Oh! And one more thing, do you think you could give Zadie a picture of me, I think she’s one hot Mutt and she would really like a picture of me!

Thank you,

Jager

Puppy Shower 101 . . .

Jan and I were asked to put together treats for a puppy shower recently. What a blast! We put together mini variety packs wrapped in brown and pink ribbon for Zoe and friends to enjoy! And displayed them in one of our "official" Don't Forget the Dog treat jars. It was Darling!!

When I dropped the treats off, I knew I had to share with all of you about the decorations, food, party games, and set-up. Nicki, the party host had put together a fabulous party for her friend Missy and new dog Zoe! No detail was left out. So of course I asked Nicki to share with us. Here you go, all you need to plan your next puppy shower!

Tips for throwing a "woof-n" good time!

Invite:
It is all about the invite, here are a couple of phrases to steal:
It's (Dog's Name)Paw-ty and she can Bark if she wants to!!
Paws...and join us for a puppy shower.
It’ll be a Doggone good time!

The registry:
Go ahead and register, humans do! Target, Amazon, Walmart, if they have a registry and dog items, make up your list!

Music:
Create the mood, find a dog cd and play it in the background. Mix it with your favorite tunes and create a playlist that is enjoyed by pups and owners both!

Food:
Human Food with a "Mutty" twist. It is all about the name. Be creative and have fun, you will be amazed at what you come up with:
Pupcakes – use your favorite cupcake mix, decorate with a solid color frosting. Ad paws by using junior mints and mini m&ms. For the princess, use red on some for a painted nail look.
Zoe’s in a Blanket – it is all in the name, a play on the old pigs in a blanket. mini wieners and croissants.
Cinnamon Roll-over Cookies - snicker doodles
Pooch Pretzels – pretzels dipped in chocolate or served with mustard dip
Cheddar Chomps – Cheetos and chex mix
Peanut Mutter & Jelly Bones - cut peanut butter and jelly sandwiches using a bone cookie cutter.
Puppy chow - the party snack that we have all loved for years!

Be sure to label all items using place cards, serve in dog dishes to add flare!

Decorations:
Table runners: Use brown mailing wrap, stamp with paws, bones, and other fun dog items.
Party Signs: Front Door - Welcome to the Paw-ty. Back of Door - lots of licks see you soon. Backdoor– Beware: extremely cute dawg on the premises.
Flowers: decorate vases with leashes, dog collars, or a doggie shirt.
Additional Touches:Paw wrapping paper and ribbon to add that extra special effect. If you have a pet, make sure all of your pets items are out and about!

Games:
Pupperiffic Advice: Have guests share their pet advice, any fun pet stories, or just give some advice. Stamp advice sheets with a paw and put into a photo album with pictures from the shower.
Pin the Tail on the guest of honor: game – blow up a picture of the new pup,use felt for tails.
Tic-Tac-Dog – Be the first person to spell the word D-O-G.

Party Favors:
Last, but not least doggie bags filled with Don’t forget the Dog treats, pet info., and toys!

Jeter Jeter Redsox Eater.....

Well, the Yankee's aren't doing so hot this year but Jeter still cheers on her number one Yankee....Derek! Yep, that's right my precious little pug is named after the one and only Derek Jeter! I also decided to keep the Yankee - Red Sox Rivalry alive with her full AKC name. I also have to admit that Jeter is not happy that we are making football treats when the World Series is just around the corner. Not to worry, she will survive!

I've decided to give you a glimpse of the grandpug that turned my mom into the "treat lady". The picture to the right is exactly why Jeter is called SPOILED! I can also count on her gaining at least 3 pounds after a visit from the grandparents.

One last thing to think about as you go on about your day......... Have you ever wondered what your furry friend looks like while your out having dinner, or a great time with friends. Well, the mystery is solved. While I was in Chicago about a month ago, my mother caught Jeter doing her "We forgot the dog" impression!

So when your out and about this weekend.......Don't Forget the DOG!

Introducing Nati and Jager

Since many of you have been so kind to share your dogs with us, I thought it was about time that Nati and Jager met all of you! Jager is a 6 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix from the Emporia Humane Society! I instantly fell in love with him, and there was no way that I was leaving him at the pound, even though Ryan told me NO! Jags is as laid back, never met a stranger, and quickly becomes everyone's best friend! He looks a little like Scooby Doo! He really is Ryan on 4 legs (if you haven't met my husband, maybe I will introduce him in a couple of weeks!). Jager's favorite DFTD treat is the BBQ Growlers! Ryan and I had never met a Rhodesian Ridgeback, if you haven't either, they are African lion hunters, who are loyal, loving companions to their owners and friends. They have a thin sleek coat and ridge of hair or mohawk that naturally grows down the middle of their back. 2 years ago, we decided that Jager needed a sibling, and began looking for a Ridgeback to join our family, when a friend brought Nati to us! She was a 1 year old Ridgeback who had been abandoned in Tulsa. She's the pretty pretty princess in our family and knows she is a purebred! On her first night with us she kicked Jager out of his bed and hasn't let him sleep there since. It is Nati's world at our house, we all live in it, and love her more everyday! Quirkiness and all! Of course, Nati's favorite treat is our Guilty Pleasures.
Please continue to send us pictures of your mutts! We would love to meet them at the Shawnee Farmer's Market, it will be the highlight of their week . . . a walk, TREATS, and lots of attention from other fair attendees!

Liz

P.S. Sorry for the long post, but they're our babies!

The Grand Opening......

Hi all! Did you think we would forget to write about last week's Grand Opening. Well, almost. Luckily, Jeter reminded me! Liz and I want to say THANK YOU to all of our friends, family, customers and our treat lovers for stopping by to say, "Bow Wow" We had a great time last week and we look forward to every Saturday morning in Shawnee! We even have a little surprise in the works for tomorrow......I won't tell you what it is, but I could give you a hint.
It rhymes with Please and dogs love it!

Ok, just one last thing before I go......how many people are tired of hearing, "Who Let the Dogs Out" If you are then send us a new dog themed song and we'll post it! Jan & Liz

Celebrity Endorsements

Jan and Liz,
Our entire lives, our parents have been asking us to jump, play hide and seek, sit, shake, and stay down! Sometimes we follow their instructions . . . Can you please send more treats to our mom? We promise we will always listen if you do!

Dear Jan and Liz ~
I wanted to send a special thank you, to both of you. My mom went over to the Shawnee Farmer's Market today and stumbled across your business. She was very excited when she saw your products, and I am so glad! Your dog treats were the best! I'm a 13 year old lab, and not much perks me up these days, but your product did the trick. I think the next time she stops by, she needs to pick up some of those peanut butter treats...those are my very favorite. Thank you both. Its very special to have two ladies who "make me howl" and who "don't forget the dogs!".
Love,Emme
